Our range of cork purses and bags are ethical, beautiful and sustainable! Cork is an amazing vegan alternative to leather and is extremely durable, soft, lightweight, antibacterial and water, fire, odour and dust repellent.

The cork leather our cork purses and bags are made from is harvested from the Cork Oak tree. When the Cork Oak has reached 20 years of age, the bark is stripped from the tree by a skilled cork harvester with a machete. The Cork Oak is the only tree in the world that can be stripped of its bark and not die, which makes our cork backpacks, vegan bags and cork purses 100% sustainable. The same cork oak tree can be harvested for its bark every 10 years for over 200 years. This is why our cork purses make an excellent alternative to leather.

The cork leather used to make our vegan cork purses is naturally waterproof, scratch proof, fire repellent and very sturdy. On top of that our cork purses are lightweight and feel great!

How is cork leather made?

The raw material that cork leather is made from is the bark of the cork oak tree. This is harvested by skilled craftsmen who remove the bark from the tree. This is a very eco-friendly processes, the tree is never cut down and the bark is removed by hand. Once this is done, the cork bark gets boiled and steamed. It is then pressed into a thin layer, which is used to make our beautiful vegan backpacks and cork bags. Any extra cork that isn’t of a good enough quality to make the fabric gets used to make bottle corks, flooring and other cork products, so nothing at all goes to waste.

Are cork forests endangered?

No! Because they are tended to by craftsmen they are protected and actually play a very important role in reducing harmful greenhouse emissions.

These forests also provide natural habitat for many species such as The Iberian Imperial Eagle, Black Vulture, Black Stork, Barbary Stag, as well as the endangered Ibearian Lynx. So not only is your cork purse cruelty free, it is also helping to maintain the environment of endangered species.

How do I care for my vegan cork purse?

Just give your cork purse a wipe! Use a damp cloth and some gentle soap, that’s it! Avoid rough cleaning chemicals (good advice for your hands anyway!) and don’t scrub it with rough sponges.

A quick wipe with a damp cloth is all it needs.
