Top Travel List 2019

When I say we love to travel, I mean it. Our love of travel is part of the reason we started to create our travel inspired bracelets, but pinning down a favourite is always hard! Here are a few of my favourites (although if you ask me tomorrow they might just have changed totally…)

Best City

This is beyond tough, I would have to choose either Sarajevo or Tokyo. They couldn’t really be more different but I love them both. Sarajevo has such soul, the people are wonderful and the history is fascinating. With such recent tragedy as the war in Bosnia it would be easy for the city to feel oppressive and sad but it doesn’t. That said, there is so much to learn about the siege of Sarajevo and the war and I would highly recommend taking in some history while you are there.

Tokyo is just bonkers. In one day we saw robot cabaret, drove around the city in go karts dressed as cartoon characters, met two meerkats dressed as British punks, played with otters and had dinner at a restaurant served by ninjas. Enough said.

Best Scenery

Bovec, Slovenia. The bright blue Soca river, the rolling Julian alps, the gorges, it is all truly beautiful. Rent mountain bikes, take a dip in a waterfall (it’s COLD) or go canyoning! This is followed closely by the rice terraces in Bali but I think Slovenia was such an unexpected beauty that it pips it to the post!

Best Nightlife

Belgrade has some pretty crazy nightlife. All along the river in the city they have floating bars called splavs that open at 11 and close… well when the last persona leaves. Some have live bands, some have DJ’s, some have karaoke, ALL have rakia (the local spirit of choice). Berlin also ranks pretty highly for me, they have some amazing clubs and bars from the achingly trendy to the more chilled.

Best beach

Secret beach, Nusa Lembongan (Bali) is wild! While it isn’t a total secret, it is a bit of a scramble to get down so there aren’t many people there. There are no bars or restaurants, it is just the white sand, the sea and whatever G and T’s you have managed to scramble down with. A perfect place for floating around like flotsam! That said, the sea in Malapasqua, Phillipines was the clearest I have ever seen!

Best Waterfall

Kuang Si Falls, Laos. That blue water…. There are no words for the feeling of jumping into that water on a humid day after an hours moped ride to get there. There are lots of little fish that nibble the dead skin from your feet too. A free spa treatment!

Best Cocktail

Now, I’ve had a few but the one that sticks in my mind the most a place called ‘Whales of August’ in Shibuya, Tokyo. They have movie themed cocktails,, one for pretty much any film you can think of. This is no gimmick, they are STRONG… I went for a Ghostbusters, naturally.

Best Food

Although Sri Lanka has the most incredible food, I think Thailand would have to be the over all winner. I love spicy food and once I learnt how to ask for it HOT HOT (it’s ‘Ped ped’ by the way) I was in heaven. One of my favourite meals was some pad thai from a street vendour on Koh San road. Even the street food is amazing. That may have been due to a number of drinks at a place called ‘Golf Bar Cocktails Very Strong We Do Not Check ID Card and Restaurant’ though…

Favourite Country

It is so hard to choose just one. If I was forced to, I would probably say Sri Lanka. It is so beautiful, the wildlife is incredible, the people are truly lovely and the food… well it is something else. We rented a tuk tuk at the start of our travel and drove around in it for 3 weeks. That was an experience and a half!

What coordinates are on your travel bracelet?

I have the coordinates of a beach in Mexico, where Joe and I went on our honeymoon. We stayed up drinking champagne and looking at the stars. It was uncharacteristically romantic for us and I wanted to keep the memory with me!!

We love reminiscing about our travels and we are always looking for new ways to take our memories with us (the fridge magnet collection is strong, but it can’t always be with us…) Next week, Joe will reveal what the coordinates on his travel bracelet are (Hint - it is something to do with too much gin…)

Be happy!
