International Women's Day

Happy International Women’s Day! Today is a day to celebrate the women in our lives who inspire us and we wanted to take a moment to share the women we find the most inspiring, and why.

Elizabeth Steed AKA Amie’s Gran

Amie says ‘My top spot will always go to my Gran. She is an amazing woman who is selfless, caring, my biggest cheerleader but also don’t get on the wrong side of her or there will be trouble… She has been a huge cheerleader of our crazy business ideas and also makes many of the cork bags, passport holders and travel wallets. I have no idea where I would be without her.’

Holly Penalver, Founder of IndiGo Volunteers

I went to school with Holly and found out years later that she had started her own charity in 2012 in response to the steep fees, dubious marketing practices, and questionable projects she had encountered whilst volunteering abroad. Holly had been keen to get involved and find a more ethical way to organise volunteering since first coming across these malpractices. While working as a paediatric nurse, she identified a small health clinic in Malawi and organised a volunteering placement for her and her colleagues. The trip confirmed that grassroots projects had great interest in the assistance of independently placed volunteers. Back home, she started her own non-profit volunteer matchmaking organisation; Indigo was born.

Margaret Rose-Goddard, Co-Founder & CIO, Future Law institute

We saw Margaret speak at Tedx Brighton in 2019. She is a person who faced huge challenges in life who has been told that she would not be able to achieve. Her response? ‘Watch My Dust’. This phrase and her passion and spirit have stuck with me every since. You can see her Ted talk here. If you have 20 minutes and need a little inspiration to get that fire back in your belly this is what you need to see!!!

The Black Mambas, All Female Anti- Poaching group

Black Mamba Anti-Poaching Unit is the first of its kind, being that the majority of the anti-poaching teams are women! The Black Mambas Anti-Poaching Unit was founded in 2013 to protect the wildlife in an area of Kruger National Park and these awesome women protect rhinos, lions, elephants and pangolins (to name a few!) against the cruel poaching traders.

These are just a few of the women pushing boundaries, protecting others, showing love and support and generally making the world a better place to be in. Today we celebrate all the amazing women in our lives. Who are you celebrating this International Women’s Day?
